7:00pm
Antwone Fisher will sign and discuss "How To Tie A Tie" - LIFE LESSONS AND HARD-EARNED ADVICE THAT EVERY BOY NEEDS TO BECOME A MAN AND EVERY MAN NEEDS TO BECOME A RESPECTED CITIZEN ANTWONE FISHER ALWAYS ADMIRED his foster father's crisp sartorial style. It wasn't until Fisher was a navy recruit that he realized this smartly dressed man had never taken the time to teach him how to be well-groomed to reflect on the outside the man he was becoming on the inside. "A boy ought to know how to tie a tie," he thought angrily, as he struggled to master the navy's required half-Windsor knot. Filled with inspiring stories, wisdom, and practical know-how, A Boy Should Know How to Tie a Tie, teaches, the basics of personal style and hygiene: why cleaning, trimming, and polishing are essential daily habits.  Key components of self-improvement: how to develop a routine for success and organize your personal space.  The importance of identity: why reinventing oneself is a necessary part of growing up.  With additional information about healthy eating, making smart financial decisions, and finding role models, Antwone Fisher offers a book filled with accessible life lessons

EsoWon presents Pam Grier
EsoWon Books
4331 Degnan Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90008
7:00pm
Pam Grier signs her new book, "Foxy: My Life in Three Acts" - As the queen of the 1970s blaxploitation movies, Grier stands assured that her as-told-to autobiography will be welcomed by film-studies collections high and low. Iconic for her roles in such gems of the genre as Coffy and Foxy Brown, Grier has also appeared in mainstream films, the likes of Fort Apache the Bronx and Mars Attacks. Her blaxploitation efforts were made on shoestring budgets without much time for rehearsal or nuance, but when given a much meatier role-the title character in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown-she turned in a spectacular performance (unfortunately, that excellent film was overlooked in the wake of Tarantino's signature work, Pulp Fiction). Grier describes making the low-budget films, in which she often portrayed a tough but beautiful woman involved in a ludicrous plot, and also such noncommercial events as her 1974 night out with John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, and Peter Lawford, during which she was ejected from the Troubadour, an "in" spot at the time, though at least in the company of pop-culture royalty. Only books purchased at EsoWon will be signed.  Ms. Grier will only sign Books.

This event will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2010.  The Opportunity Institute conducts an annual "preview weekend" which allows teenagers to experience a sample of our 40-hour enriched bible study and biblical application training, also known as "empowerment workshops". Preview Weekend also involves Christian guest speakers, professionals and entertainers. Teenagers are able to network with and gain further insight from our experts. We conclude this event with a special concert to kick-off the year. This event is FREE and open to the public. Teens 13-18 are encouraged to apply.
