The acclaimed documentary, The Black List, features interviews with a diverse collection of people -- from comedian Chris Rock, to political activist Al Sharpton, to artist Kara Walker to politicians, athletes, musicians and playwrights. The conversations are engaging and often surprising. HerShe Group Foundation, Inc.
Cinderella Ball & Gala
Nate Holden Performing Arts Center
Each year thousands of young women are emancipated from the Foster Care system and left to fend for themselves. Many lack the support, training and resources to succeed on their own. Seven out of ten will be homeless and 60 percent find themselves incarcerated within one year of emancipation.  Only one out of ten will attend college, and out of that number just one out of 100 will graduate. These are some startling statistics, but there is an organization in town, HerShe Group Foundation, that is helping these young women beat the odds and succeed in life. Each year the organization hosts a two-week long empowerment camp called Camp Cinderella, providing arts, mentorship, exposure to extraordinary experiences, and education. This year the camp happens July 6-19 and culminates with the Cinderella Ball, on July 19, a gala featuring live music, an original performance by the girls, and an award ceremony. “This is a Rites of Passage ceremony for these young women,” said Richardson. “When they believe in themselves and walk on that stage they feel encouraged to go out and succeed, knowing they have mentors, friends and supporters in their lives who will help them to achieve success long term. The Cinderella Camp and Gala are sponsored by Los Angeles County Second District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and the County of Los Angeles. To become a financial donor or mentor, please contact the HerShe Group Foundation.
