Save Allensworth!
Bus Trip to Sacramento For Committee Meeting
Leaving from Jackson Limo Parking Lot
Slauson Avenue & West Blvd.
Los Angeles, California
11:30pm
Allensworth is a town, and the only California Park that
honors the accomplishments, vision and culture of African
Americans. It was founded by Colonel Allen Allensworth who
was born a slave and sold three times by the age of twelve
because he was caught reading. He became the first African
American chaplain and the highest ranking officer in the
US Army in his day. Allensworth is now threatened by two
mega dairies approved by Tulare County to operate across
the street from the park. The 21,000 cows will create several
tons of manure and 10,000 gallons of manure water and draw
millions of flies a day. This will kill the park. The California
Black Caucus has written Bill AB 576 to protect the park.
It will be heard in committee on April 18th. We have a bus
going up from Jackson Limo lot (Slauson Avenue and West
Bld. in Los Angeles at 11:30pm. The trip is free. Speak
up to protect our heritage. Please RSVP.

"New Resources for Addressing Racism"
FAME Renaissance Center
1968 W. Adams Blvd in Los Angeles.
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
On behalf of Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas and a multi-cultural
assemblage of co-sponsors, we invite you to attend an informational
dialogue and orientation focusing on "New Resources
for Addressing Racism". This orientation is related
to the 15th anniversary of the 1992 Civil Unrest, and is
designed to increase the knowledge and capabilities of those
individuals and organizations who are working to address
issues of racial disharmony and/or inequity. The instruction
and discussion will focus on how to organize large-scale
dialogues and other collaborative/networking methods to
catalyze the engagement of larger communities and ultimately
effect positive change and racial equity among individuals,
in organizations, and in public policy. Your demonstrated
concern for these issues warranted informing you about this
important opportunity. We anticipate the attendance of a
diverse group of professionals and community leaders/members.
We also have a group of high school students from Hamilton
High school confirmed to attend this orientation, and hope
that YOU will also be among the participants. Please note
that FREE Lunch is provided and space is limited, thus your
prompt RSVP is imperative. If you are not able to attend

WordPlay - The Art of Wosene Worke Kosrof
Addis Art Gallery
5524 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA
6:00pm
Wosene's work has been shown and collected by major galleries
and institutions since the 1970s. His early fascination
with Amharic script from his native Ethiopia has evolved
into calligraphic forms imbued with symbolic and metaphoric
characteristics that transcend ethnicity. Trained as a fine
artist in Ethiopia and at Howard University in the US, Wosene
was one of the first African artists to achieve critical
success in the contemporary art scene. Indeed, his work
is so complex and irresistible that his audiences manifest
a fan-like devotion. The collection on exhibition at Addis
Art Gallery will consist of recent and mostly new work;
the intimate setting and the opportunity to meet the artist
at the opening receptions, makes this an exhibition worthy
of special attention. Opening receptions: Saturday, April
28, 6-9 pm and Sunday, April 29, 2-7 pm.
